The Abs Diet is written by David Zinczenko and is another great book from the Rodale Press. The diet involves eating twelve nutrient packed power foods for six weeks. These power foods will provide you with all the necessary nutrients, fiber, vitamins and minerals essential to encourage muscle growth, fat burning and good health. The Abs Diet also includes a twenty-minute workout for you to perform three times a week.
The theory behind the Abs Diet is that for every extra pound of muscle gained, you body will burn an extra fifty calories each day and by following this plan, exercising and eating the right foods, your body will burn fat and lose weight faster. This means that if you gain an extra ten pounds in muscle weight, your body will use enough calories to allow you to lose a pound in weight without dieting.
The Abs Diet does not involve any starvation tactics; in fact you are allowed to eat six meals containing the twelve specified power foods daily. I should add here that these are the only permitted foods for the six weeks, but I think you will agree that the variety is quite ample. The foods allowed in the Abs Diet are turkey and other lean meats, nuts and almonds, spinach and other green vegetables, olive oil, instant hot oat cereals, berries, low fat dairy product, beans and pulses, peanut butter, whole grain cereals and bread plus an extra protein powder supplement.
You can expect to lose twelve pounds in the first week followed by at least five pounds a week, in the subsequent ones. The Abs Diet also includes information on basic nutrition, a seven-day diet plan, success stories, illustrated exercises, and explains how this diet can improve your health, and even your sex life.
I can recommend this book if you are carrying too much fat around your stomach, as this is an important risk factor for many health problems, especially heart disease, and it is also an excellent diet if you just want to look good.
